I have 12 Indian runners, all female (layers) that all seems to be terrified of me! This is what they do everytime I enter their penn.

I've raised them since they were day-olds. My chickens are very sociable by comparison. What can I do?

  • DO NOT EVER SAY STUPID DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @abraham1212able My bad..I'm sorry :-(

  • Okay. You all Lay off him/her!! I don't care if your a duck keeper or not! I am a duck keeper, and I know Indian Runners, and they are naturally skittish, especially when you have that many! They bond to each other, not to a person. I mean, yeah, some ducklings at a day old will follow you and will never be afraid of you! I got two Cayugas when they were day-olds, and they followed me and everything! But one day my female got killed. But some ducks are just skittish!

  • @pokemonmaster123r My daughter made an incubator this summer which only produced two chicks and one runner duckling. Because they were always together the 3 of them stick together - the runner doesn't even associate with the other ducks! Since the two chickens associate me with food and follow me around, so does this runner duck. She is skittish but so long as I am calm and smooth and give her odd bit of bread or a grub she's okay.

  • they are obviously scarred of you for a reason.

  • You mean maybe I _shouldn't_ dress up in my fox costume when I go to feed the ducks :-) :-) :-)

  • @Beatleobsessed How is the owner stupid? It sounds like your what your calling the owner : /

  • You are a terrible owner. I'm a duck keeper, how on earth are they so scared! How horrible to watch...

  • I just got a new Indian Runner duckling and it can't stand to be without me, the guy who we bought it off said they grow up really fast and go through certain stages, he said they are the pest pet ducks because they become very affectionate if you spend alot of time with them. he said at one point in their upbringing they will be timid and try to dominate you, much like a dog does

  • Lmfao!

  • It's normal.

Indian Runners are just very easily scared. If I even shine a torch beam on the ground near mine they get scared of that!

  • hey there mine do the same. That particular breed tends to panic when cornered, so its nothing unusual
