  • the authoress of laura hated preminger for rewriting how waldo would try to kill her. she never forgave him- even almost 30 years later. she had it that he hid a gun in his cane. otto said that it was ridiculous- no one would believe it in a movie. i think otto's ending was very practical.

preminger was no slated to direct, only produce. but things happened and zanuck relented and let him have total reins.

So Rouben Mamoulian directed the all movie ? I don't Think so. He's uncredited, ok, but if all the institutions say so, i Think they're right (that's not the only film which has been in this situation).

For the guns' story, I think, it was to people that he change the end, not to be in fight with Frederic Roidrich. It was the time when Hollywood had the very power on everything and everyone closed their eyes.

  • @Blyseur12 Mamoulian Had almost completed the movie when Preminger took it over and re did the entire movie as he wanted it done.this is why you will not see him credited I found this out from my Laura CD, it was almost not done and could easily have ended up a b movie only for Preminger doggedness he and La Shalle where really the only ones who knew the rough diamond they had waiting to be cut....in the hands of the masters.

  • Clifton Webb is a sadly underrated actor. Great ending to this movie! Those were truly the great days of movies. Hurrah for black & white movies. Thanks for posting this! Cheers!

  • Great film!

  • @bigred997 in a bio written on otto 3 years ago, the author says that zanuck was willing to let him produce but not direct this picture while at the same time directing one about army wives starring jeanne crain. only because the other guy had a melt down when otto made significant script changes including where the gun was hidden, did otto take over. cut, that's a print...

  • Such a touching ending...
