Here's something I did, since I've seen a lot of people ask about it. It's really simple!

Hehe, the old screechy sound :D
I used to annoy my band bandmembers with that ;)
Not all cymbals can handle it though:
Some thinner cymbals might crack since you're actually "scratching" it.
A healthier alternative is to take a cello or violin bow, placing the hair-side on the edge of the cymbal and gently move it up and down the edge.
