1995-97 was a bad time for hockey... first 3 teams move from hockey-mad cities (although maybe not as much for Hartford compared to Winnipeg and Quebec), then some teams switches to extremely horrible jerseys or logos...

I know getting a team in Hartford is important, but our priority is to prevent the Islanders from moving. Lots of history will be lost and rivalries as well. Rangers Islanders will be DONE. Just like the Bruins and Whalers. Don't let it happen!

Those were the new jerseys introduced in 1995. Due to strong backlash and an overall tacky image, they went back to their old logo and jerseys three years later. It was like the "New Coke" of the NHL.

i am from connecticut, and i like the islanders, but i would love to have an NHL team in my own backyard instead of having to drive 2 1/2 hours all the way to long island to see about 3 to 4 islander games a year. so in a way i would like the whalers back in hartford
