On his first ever trip to Orkney this summer with accordionist Ian Cruickshanks and pianist Bill Ewan, Virtuoso violinist and renowned Scottish fiddler Hebbie Gray plays his respects at the beautiful Italian chapel that was erected by Italian prisoners of war during WW2 in Orkney. Appropriately, Hebbie plays some beautiful Italian airs and it was a great experience to hear such beautiful music in such a beautiful building , we hope you enjoy it.

  • He is my Granda and i am following on in his fiddling ways - type in Gregor's magic fiddle. this isnt a good clip of me but hav a look anyway !

  • @GregorMcHardy Had a look Gregor, Great stuff !

  • There are vineyards of Chardonnay in N.E. Italy, so an appropriate drink to go with the Italian melodies.

  • Will still play the video on it's own merit. Listened to the prog. you advised and enjoyed it immensley. A lot! Look forward to more of the same with the same.!!!!

  • Glad you enjoyed the programme and glad you're still enjoying this video !

  • This is my old fiddle teacher way back in the day. I afraid I never progressed beyond Rock of Ages. This is haunting and I have put it onto my favourites. I am sure the Italian pows would sapprove of this.

  • Interested to hear you were taught by Hebbie. He must be one of the most inspiring musicians I've had the privilege to play with and a real gentleman. Hebbie was staying with me for the last two nights as we were recording a broadcast for the BBC's Take the Floor programme last night as members of Bruce Lindsay's Scottish Dance Band and it's aired on Radio Scotland on Saturday 27th at 7.05pm.
