I love Irina, and I feel bad she took 2nd place coz she really tried hard to get the gold medal. She is still a wonderful skater, but Kwan's program was cleaner. It was about quality, not quantity. Figure skating is not the same with the new judging system. Nowadays its all about quantity, and not quality. They are both wonderful skaters, but seriously, with the new judging system, none of them would be getting a medal nowadays... WHY DID THEY RUIN FIGURE SKATING???!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the new scoring system has really changed figure skating. The jumps (especially in the women's event) are amazing, but sadly, the quality artistry is a thing of the past.

How come no one ever sings while the National Anthem plays? Anyway, deserving order for 2001 Ladies Event.

Irina was sloppy, she's really improved in cleaning her skating

Michelle looks so thin! I think Irina is a sweet girl, and like her a lot, but Kwan won the day that day. That Black Swan performance was flawless. Irina just kept jumping a bit sloppily thinking "if I jump enough, I'll win." Artistry won the day.

Nice rendition of our national anthem.

And those 3 exact ladies would be the ones on the podium the following year for the Olympics. Though sadly, the order would not.
It was close between Kwan and Slutskaya. Irina is more of a jumper, but there is more to this sport than landing triple triples. I wish Kwan had won the Gold in the 2002 Olympics. Sarah Hughes, in retrospect, was awesome during the free skate at the Olympics...that was it, though. Her short program had her in 4th. Not great.
And, I hate the new scoring system, by the way.

It wasn't even close, Irina was lucky to have won silver.
