About 300 people were inside the Conagra Food Plant when there was an explosion early this morning. The explosion apparently hit the packaging area of the plant. Several of the employees reported seeing workers in shock, some dazed and burned and even left with clothing that appeared shredded. The cause of the explosion is under investigation and as of this report there are still rescue workers on the scene. David Daggett, a NC attorney encouraged victims and family members to not react under pressure to the myriad of legal issues that arise. "First thing to do is put your arms around your family and take care of those immediate concerns."
Daggetts firm has handled cases such as this over the years and he states that in his experience "explosions dont just happen. Usually when theres an explosion, something was done wrong or a safety protocol was breeched." Daggett further states that an initial review of public records indicates "some safety violations occurred in 2006 and 2007 and other violations were found in an inspection as far back as 2001."
ConAgra spokesman Jeff Mochal in Omaha, Neb, said the plant employs 900 people in three shifts.
