On this day in 1977 {April 2nd} Thelma Houston performed "Don't Leave Me THis Way" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'...

Four months earlier on December 18th, 1976 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on April 23rd it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 24 weeks on the Top 100...

Earlier in 1977 on February 19th it also reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart...

And for the song Ms. Houston won a Grammy for 'Best Female R&B Vocal Performance'...

What a fantastic voice, always liked that song.

She is one of the greatest vocalists ever in the history or music. During this performance she picked up on the audiences hand-clap and grooved herself to it while keeping them locked onto to it by her body groove and singing in it's groove. She and the audience "clicked" and the whole scene was just right on fabulous. The audience started the hand clap tempo at 1:28 right after her awesome vocal breakout from 1:23 to 1:28. From 1:28 on she was rocking to an astern European beat.
