the dimension 8400 has a rear 92mm delta fan... those things spin at insane speeds is undervolted to control the noise

Wow! That's why I build my desktops. Leave it to Dell to screw up on something as simple as air cooling.
I'd buy an after market CPU cooler and pray that the holes line up.

Thermal grease is bad. I reccomend Arctic Silver. I should know, my computer did this 2 weeks ago.

Happened to me today after I had reapplied thermal paste.
I just had to reseat the processor back in, and it worked.
