This parrot just tugs at my heart. He rubs his beak and nose, causing the feathers to thin out around his beak. He plucks his chest and back and under his wings - BARE! He has been to Bird Veternarians, had body sock vest, as well as velcroed fastened birdie vest to prevent plucking, elizabethian collars, special diets, full spectrum lighting, showers and or sprayed with aloe water daily, all to no avail. He is not my parrot but is temporarily staying with me and he has a home with me as long as he needs it, I would never abandom him. His owner asked me to keep him for a while and I hope to cure him of his plucking while he is here with me. That would be great.

  • Wow this is quite a collection of good videos about parrots. poor jaared probably like get the hell away from me!!!! lol just makin a little joke im not trying to be mean.

  • I weighed Jaared twice on Monday, 6/22/09. He weighed 451 kg before he ate and then he weighed 466 before I put him to bed. Birds fluctuate in weight over the course of each day. A parrots crop in located rt. below his neck and above the chest area.. I can always tell when Jaared has a full crop, just by looking at it. He is doing fine.

  • Hi, I am Choozyums and Choozylady, so I can answer. Actually Jaared is Not skinny. I have a birdie scale and weigh him, I will weigh him again tommorrow and post it. All birds would look strange or skinny without their feathers, but he is healthy and he has a good appitite. Nobody can say exactly why. I think its a nervous habit that started as an allegic reation the 2nd time he got the polymalvirus vaccination. That is my theory and he just won't stop.....

  • Jareed is skiny do you feed him you can see his ribs! =(

  • He's had blood test done and everything. I think it's like a nervous habit, now. It started about 7 years ago when he had a vaccination & he started plucking the area around the injection of the vaccination. His clutchmate (sister) died from a birdie disease called polmalvirus so we had them all vaccinated 2 X. First one, then at the Vet's urging, a follow-up. The follow-up shot is when he started to pluck. Even his lega are bare. We later found out that we really didn't have to get the shots!

  • ooh i read the details now what causes him to do that has the dr said?

  • he plucks off his feathers??? omg that looks painful maybe he should see a dr. lol aww i love birds.

  • Wow, it's still such a sight to look, seeing Jaared there w/ no feathers. Nothing much is going on for Jaared but I can see that Kee-kee's right there being a good bird just lounging in her cage, she's waiting for that "good bird" call. It's good to know that you have the chance to take such special care of Jaared.
