Small Buck Crossbow

Small 4 Pointer came in and gave me a good shot opertunity to get on film.
Shooting an Excalibur 165, at about 15 - 20 yards. The deer runs about 40 yards and crashes.
Camera is a Samsung Sports Cam with an external lens that mounts to a headband.

I'll bet 100 to 1 that it was a miss. A cross bow that does not have a silencer on the string sounds like 22 rifle. A deer will hear the sound long before the bolt (arrow) reaches the target and is out of the way of the bolt.

Just do some math, the speed of sound, 670 ft per second: cross bow bolt, 312 feet per second. Which gets to the deer first. Hence, the deer is has moved before the bolts hits it.

I have learned the value of a string silencer.

first of all, it wasnt a miss. the deer ran about 40 yards and piled up. the deer was quartering away from me and the arrow went in just behind the ribcage through the vitals and out the front shoulder.

Secondly i shoot 4 or 5 deer a year with this set-up and have yet to have one "jump the string". I have missed due to human error but have yet to have one as you describe jump the string. You just have to wait for the proper shot angle, and be sure the deer isnt alert when you shoot.

My father too shoots a similar set up and has the exact same results as i do.

The crossbow also sounds alot louder as the actual camera (not the remote lens) was in my pocket which was right beside the stock of the crossbow.

it was a guaranteed hit. the way the buck jumped and kicked, it's a hit. 2nd, the chance of a deer jumping a xbow string @ 15-20 yards, never.. you doubt? here's a test. set up a decoy @20 - 30 yards, set up your camera beside the target then shoot.. you would be surprised at just how quiet it is. the sound doesn't register until the bolt is at the target, and that's in the open, without all the trees & leaves dampening the sound. we've shot @40 yards and never had 'em jump the string. nice try.

@Junkbuggy actually the speed of sound is just over 1100 fps and idk what crossbow you heard that was as loud as a 22 but u should probably go back to the guy who tuned it and tell him ud like him to fix it before u lose a eye or finger i mean jesus if ur gunna comment and talk stupid atleast get ur facts right...o wait i forgot none of them where

decent video, but the camera man should've zoomed in a bit. I only saw the deer for a split second and then he was gone. I'd like to see more with the actual deer in frame.

You didn't notice the deer arch it's back and it looked like the deer kicked out its back legs indicating a good solid hit. I've taken several with a bow and the way a deer reacts will give you lots of info on the type of hit you made.
