In the final moments of their last meeting, in referring to her "woman's intuition," John Ford, without saying so, was asking Hepburn, whom he had always known to be brutally honest, if she thought he was dying.
She answered immediately and simply: "Yes."

This is a wonderful recording. It reveals their love for each other. It's tender and sad.

@pheobs61 He may have wanted only her to hear what he had to say - maybe him saying she had a woman's intuition meant that he was telling her (without words) that he loved her in a way that was more than a friendship love? The tape ran out so he may well have said equally significant things to her and she to him.

Hepburn was a dyke. The married dipsomaniac Spencer Tracy was a ruse. Why would he want to waste valuable drinking-time with a lesbian anyway?

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

They actually had an affair in the 30's (when Ford directed Katherine in Mary of Scotland), and they really liked each other. Eventually, Ford elected to stay with his wife more out of duty than love. Some say it was a great love.

Oh that makes sense. Thanks.

What are they saying in the end? A woman's intuition? what? Why would he care if anyone was listening....
From what I've read online written by other Hepburn fans who are far more knowledgeable than I, it seems that Ford was dying and by saying "you have woman's intuition?" he was asking if she realized he wouldn't be around much longer.
