In the depths of the Depression, a party game brings dizzy socialite Irene Bullock to the city dump where she meets
Godfrey, a derelict, and ends by hiring him as family butler. He finds the Bullocks to be the epitome of idle rich, and nutty as the proverbial fruitcake. Soon, the dramatizing Irene is in love with her 'protege'...who feels strongly that a romance between servant and employer is out of place, regardless of that servant's mysterious past... • ".... But I never can think of the right thing to say until everybody's gone home..."

Was reminded of this famous line of dialogue today -- unreal how great Hollywood was when it was.

Conservatism even makes better comedies. Ryskind was a conservative and Obama could learn a thing or two from this film...

  • She is so impish! How can anyone not love her. Best scene. Look at the way her head bobs as she is carried up the stairs. I love that she was so obviously faking the spell

  • I like your vid clip and I've rated it as awesome. I've done another video clip on some old cigarette cards of 1930's movie stars, including: Robert Young, Bing Crosby, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Clark Gable, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo,Johnny Weismuller, Gary Cooper and Carole Lombard.
