On Wed Nov 18th the Arizona Pilots Association put on a trip to the Barry M. Goldwater Range to watch some A-10 Warthog's practice dropping bombs. firing the GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling Gun and shoot some missiles. We got to watch from the top of the scoring tower which was pretty cool. The bombs they dropped were the BDU-33. The 25-pound BDU-33 bombs have a spotting charge that releases a cloud of smoke on impact so there was no big explosions. The BDU-33 is used to simulate the MK 82 in low drag configuration. I didnt get any good video of the bomb dropping or the missiles because they did that to far away for my camera to pick it up but by far that Gatling gun was the best. I have some more video and will make a part two soon.

  • that must have been real cool to watch!

  • Yeah I love air shows and watching planes in general but this tops them all. :-) You could feel the concussion from that gating gun being fired.

First you see the smoke come from the barrel and then you hear the rounds breaking the sound barrier and then you hear the actual sound from them being fired from the gun.
