Purely from a technical angle, this is quite extraordinary (and I am astonished that there so few comments). Musically, this is sublime; it avoids longeurs, it is driven and it allows everything to speak. In other words, inspired Brahms. The conductor, the french hornist, the entire strings and frankly everyone in this is wonderful and with Pollini at his height, a miracle of committed, intelligent and and expressive truth.

@wnxg4nd4lf definitely agreed -- i'm amazed by how much more energy and passion there is in this recording compared to the one from the same cast in the mid-90s!

Fantastic! Young Pollini is really one of the best pianists ever! His sound and technique are simply amazing. Nowadays he doesn't perform to the same standards. I guess age caught up with him : )
