  • i know this is a bit late but a serviceman told me that you should NEVER use sockets in the high voltage sets. Did this set last long or did it die soon after?. Supposedly the sockets change the input frequency which can affect the flyback transformer making the problem ALOT worse i.e., what happened to me :(

  • @darqs Its been 38 months and the TV is still working great.

Sorry to shoot down your TV serviceman's advice, but there is no way sockets could effect the operation of the circuit in question. The frequency is digitally fixed by the IC's and uneffected by sockets or wiring. In fact, using the IC sockets greatly simplified this repair.

Am I to understand that you made the same repair yourself and the TV failed? How long did take? If so what components failed?

  • How much do you charge for repair of this problem, I have same set but 32" model. Thanks.

  • @wildbill368 I probably would not charge anything but that Sony is way past is life span. Buy a new Plasma or LCD.

  • please help us we have the same problem with ours it is a sony trinitron model kv-32fv310 it makes a woosh sound when you turn it on but no picture we feel very said because the picture in this tv is very nice and clear we dont know if we should just get rid of it or pay to have it repair?

  • @cartoonice1 Since LCD displays are getting cheaper I would trash the Sony and buy a new set. It was fun working on it. The DIY days of repairing old style sets are over.

  • I have this same TV with the same problem, can I hire you to repair mines!

  • I got a Sony KV-27H5420 that needs the chips replaced, I googled and cannot find the repair kit I found a while back, Gould you perhaps tell us where you got yours?

  • I thank you sir, i just performed the repair on my tv, which is the same model, and it worked perfectly!!!! You just saved me the cost of repair or a new tv!!! Thank you!

  • NOTE: I did way more than 5 - 6 hours of research. I've been practicing soldering for about a year, read all the threads in the forums that I could find for the last 4 months and have a good understanding of electronics. This can be very dangerous if do not have a good working knowledge of electrical components and circuitry.

  • Just fixed my KV-XBR800 tonight. I had 7 blinks, did a lot of research on how to fix, got my soldering skills up & 5 - 6 hours later.........BAM!!! I almost shit myself that it worked. That I did it.....WHOO-HOO!!!! What a good feeling.
