Yes I agree it is very random, they most likely were friends before Archie came and maybe the writers put this scene in to show how much Archie comes between them later in the show.

I never really liked Katrina anyway, I was always a Lexie fan.

I always find that scene so random and just thrown in there as for the first 7 episodes I saw barely to no communication between them whatsoever and now they are acting like two close girlfriends. It makes you wonder if they had some kind of relationship before Archie returned to Glenbogle as both were there for years beforehand.

Lexie and Katrina at 5.58!!! It makes you wonder how they end up hating each other!! :P
