Connecticut State Conservation will not be safe from development if what is happening in Haddam Connecticut and you allow river view property to be swapped with land owned by Riverhouse LLC. The 17 acres of land was purchased in 2003 for $1.35 million for the purpose of preserving this land for prosperity agreed to by the state and the seller. It then became OUR land. The land was purchased with funds from The Recreation and National Heritage Trust Program and through it the DEP manages the land.
In May 2009 Riverhouse Properties purchased 87 acres near Cockaponset Forest valued at less than $500,000 and is currently mortgaged to swap for our 17 acres overlooking the Connecticut River. In 2009 Senator Eileen Daily purposed to include this swap as part of an annual conveyance bill, then in 2010 she brought it back and now it?s back again in 2011. The river view property in question is known as Clark Creek Wildlife Management Area.
