The Joint Fires Integration and Interoperability Team (JFIIT)is testing new night time identification system at the Army's National Training Center (NTC).

At night in Iraq, there are combat identification issues when a friendly convoy from one unit meets a friendly convoy from another unit on a road. A light filtering scheme that enables the drivers of these convoys wearing night vision goggles can help identify a friendly convoy so they don't inadvertently fire on them.

  • Actually not a lot of science. This is just polariser/filter.

  • It's at the end. It's a filter; not a new system of technology.

  • And if you are in total darckness can you see?

  • i want one ^^

  • the new "MercedesBens" night vision still looks better

  • ditto,, great minds think alike, not only that with a 730 nM filter infront of the polarising filter it kills all white light leaving only the near infrared.

  • Well, if you see the flare of the headlight of a

car you just shooting, because it's not your firends. So please keep your filter working, otherwise, ... :( !

  • I thought of this in '85. POLARIZED FILTERS. The filter on the facing device (goggles in this case) is oriented at say 45 degrees, and since it's facing the headlights of the oncoming vehicle, it will be 90 degrees off, negating the headlight glare completely.

We could do this fairly easily. Nobody seems interested at the DOT though. Otherwise I'd be rich now.

But not seeing other's headlight beams might cause more accidents than headlight glare contributes to in the first place, I fear.

  • Very cool !

Any technical details on this device ?
