While Ghanaians could only watch president Obama from afar, there was no denying the excitement his visit has generated in Accra. The people appeared to appreciate his presence despite the expected tight security that kept them at bay when he delivered his keynote speech in parliament.
The choice to go to Ghana is highly linked to the First Lady Michel Obama. It is important for her and the children to revisit the roots of their fore-parents who were forcefully taken to the Americas as slaves. Obama has been to Kenya before. Currently, even if Kenya were characterised by good governance, Obama would not exercise nepotism by putting Kenya before other Sub-Saharan countries.

Obama may be the most popular but he isn't the most famous African.
plus this isn't his first visit to Africa, as he has visited Egypt before, and kenya a couple times before the presidency.
