These aircraft don't require long fancy runways. This Ultralight Runway is at the John Nichols Airfield just east of Otay Lake, about 17 miles SE of San Diego USA. Ultralights have operated at this airfield for about 30 years now.
The single seat ultralights are awesome fun, but you'll get more use out of a heavier two-seater. The bigger trikes can fly in slightly higher winds and are more steady in turbs. It really comes down to what you want from your flying. If you want local bimbles in nice weather to just chill and relax - go for a FAR 103 machine, but if you want to travel a bit of distance then you might find a heavier machine will suit you better. Personally I love both, and own a machine somewhere in the middle.

I am going to get one, do you think I should get a big ol rotax delta wing combo or a little far 103 lawn mower engine hang glider combo?
