A video format of a presentation I gave for the Agriculture Resource Committee of San Juan County on Farmland Preservation to the Shaw Island Community on April 30th, 2008.
In the UK, people like to buy land and plant trees, thinking that they are doing the right thing for nature. They forget that these fields have been hard won by thousands of years of labour, and many generations of knowledge. "To break a pasture makes a man, to make a pasture breaks a man."
I live in an apartment and have found a way to grow veggies on my patio and even use worm "farming" for composting my organic waste. I collect rainwater for my plants and agree 100% with you! We only have 1 earth!!
