Thanks for that info voxley. I studied for a year in Guildford & consider Surrey to have a far more attractive landscape than Chilterns/Herts/Bucks which I associate with commuter boredom with high house prices.Even Highly desirable residential areas like Richmond,Kew,Windsor are under the flightpath

My mothers ashes are scattered there.

How wonderful to see the beautiful Surrey countryside while I am spending two months working a long long way from home. More please!

Do you get alot of low flying planes bearing in mind the proximity to Gatwick in Dorking ?

Aircraft noise is a problem on many walks in the south-east of England. Its not especially bad on this walk, You can see the planes taking off from Gatwick Airport from the top of Leith Hill.

I'm not a plane spotter. I actually wanted to check out some houses in Dorking town & would actually be put off by low flying aircraft.

Dorking is a fantastic place to live- there is NO problem with aircarft noise to put you off. There are no low flying aircraft from Gatwick over the town. Once you get out into the countryside anywhere in south-east England you can hear aircraft- its a particular problem in the Chilterns in my experience. If tranquility is defined as standing still and being unable to hear any manmade noise, there is nowhere in south-east England that is tranquil. Such is "progress" or is it madness?
