A New Academy Seeks to Improve Student Engagement and Home - School Partnership by Rethinking
the Curriculum and Supporting it with Mobile Technology. Marsh Academy, a 1,000 student age 11
Profile 18 school in the County of Kent, in the United Kingdom opened in September 2007. A new building will start in 2009, but the Academy currently occupies the Southlands Comprehensive remises. Tracy Luke, Marsh Academys Principal, with her team, set out to improve motivation through a new approach to the curriculum and the engagement of parents in a true home-school learning partnership. Key to this still-developing process is a major change in the Academys information communications and technology (ICT) infrastructure. A programme of providing each student in Years Seven and 11 with a laptop began in October 2008.
