Smarter traffic systems create better cities. IBM worked with the City of Stockholm to implement smart toll systems that cut gridlock by 20% and saved the citizens both time and money.

I have a question

How do we know the computers are good for the environment?

I'm asking because the computers take energy as well, and the electricity, at least most of it, today is created by burning coal. So, does anyone know for sure the computer set up is better for the environment or is it just more convenient for us because we don't have to compete with traffic?

Anyone can reply.

Orwells Ideas get reality by environmentalistic propaganda. And who is providing the technology? IBM - experienced since the 1930ies....

is it really up to IBM to implement such things?

@Henkutt

IBM was simply the technology partner engaged to provide the solution. It was the city of Stockholm that determined the need and implemented IBM's solution.

Yes it's a fantastic idea! i would also implement this in South Americas cities (of course not that much money, but if it costs them a dollar or two the whole day they will think twice in entering the main part of the city). And yes, people should use public transport more!

How in the world did the Swedes (once again) realize this sort of innovation.. and so dramatic change? I'm impressed.. perhaps more so with the Government and the people more so than IBM.

it's the Swedes mate. that says it all. my opinion is that no country can top the scandinavian ones when it comes to taking care of their people.
