You're lobbing the ball to close to the net on the opponent's side. He could have changed the direction of the ball dramatically by smashing the ball on the rise which would have been very difficult to return. Try lobbing it longer or adding a lot of sidespin to make it unpredictable and force the opponent to hit it at the top or on the fall. This way, you'll really control the pace and ultimately, the game.

I play ping pong at home with friends and we all suck but why don't u just hit a light shot to make one run up to the net. if they return it hit it far. u could do the same thing with direction. that way u don't hut it directly to ur opponent

No offense or anything but you could easily be a 2200+ player if you didn't lob so much. 2200 players can smash lobs all day and you won't win most of those points. It's entertaining and you're a great lobber but that shot is about as useful as a tweener in tennis.
