There is a strong public protest against the joint strike action planned by the United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
The public pointed out that it is unreasonable to organize strikes with the purpose of reversing the victories achieved by the country. They said it is improper to stage strikes and put the innocent people into difficulty. They were of the view that launching such trade union action will not be beneficial to the country. There are several ways of resolving problems without resorting to strikes. The Government is prepared to discuss the problems and solve them. As such, they queried as to why the trade unions were not prepared to enter into negotiations to sort out their problems. This clearly indicates that the purpose of the strike is to reverse the victories achieved and to achieve their parochial aims..
