The show is great, but listening to the Barbara Dickson cast recording, it's so clear how much the orchestrations have been ruined with all subsequent versions. The original is very down the earth- all the rest are very echoey and a bit souless

What can't be paid. Yes, you can't borrow success. Still trying to go beyond the forever terms, for me. Someone so very perfect comes before all, my little 9 year old mothers, name sake, Helen.

Niki Evans was phenomenal at this song.

Lyn Paul is my Mrs J.

@rees276 Thanks for that.....I am shocked to have just found out that Stephanie Lawrence is dead !! Where have I been?
We shared the same birthday by coincidence. I did like her as Mrs Johnstone when I saw her in the "nineties".
I am thrilled to be seeing Niki Evans ( a girl from the city where I was born) in Rhyl,North Wales in September.

@pins1952 Kiki Dee was the first Mrs Johnstone I heard sing the role (on a soundtrack cassette) She was great, as was Petula Clark and Stephanie Lawrence. But can anyone really fail in this amazing role? Ive seen 2 Nolans, Marti Webb, Niki Evans and an incredibly talented understudy on stage and I loved it every time. I think the film would demand a big na\me, so my choice would be Catherine Zeta Jones, who was great in CHICAGO and has a beautiful earthy voice. Aneurin Barnard as Mickey.

@Don127NY Thank you for having such Good Taste !!
Kiki Dee has always retained professionalism and her soulful voice is something that Britain should be proud of !!.Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS

Has anyone heard Kiki Dee sing this?
It is quite mind-blowing...I had the good fortune to see her in Blood Brothers many years ago...unforgettable portrayal.
I think Ms.Dee is, and has always been the most under rated singer in Great Britain.
Say what you like, there has never been a voice to match hers on Blood Brothers..

I love Kiki Dee and have all her albums, but I honestly don't think she was a patch on Barbara as Mrs Johnstone. Barbara brought so much emotion to it - she's had some tough competition since she created the role with singers like Petula Clark and Carole King playing the role but the only one who's come near her, for me, is Lyn Paul.
