From the 1978 UK National Theatre production of 'Lark Rise'. This is an excerpt of a 1979 BBC TV documentary on Ashley Hutchings and the Albion Band. Video is a few generations old, but rare!

Band includes Ashley Hutchings, Graeme Taylor, John Tams, Martin Carthy, Michael Gregory etc.

  • What a wonderful song;and praise be Jesus, they didn't use wah wah pedals

  • It is bizarre really because in the whirligigs of time that have passed since, that culture that they embody is as old and passed as that culture they tried to represent, but perhaps in some way the original is still alive in spite of that . Even if you were to take away the electric guitars they look so artificial and false and strained but there you go, that is the way.

  • Gods, this tune sends shivers down my spine.

  • Martin Carthy AND Graeme Taylor,then.....

  • @Hicksie52

Martin Carthy is also playing his telecaster there. You can see him at 2:26, pretty much in the middle of the screen.

  • I think you'll find it's Graeme Taylor on lead guitar...

  • I remember this production very well. I think that's Dave King as the priest. Nice to see Martin Carthy using the Telecaster.
