  • Few people bring up Malle's cuts to the waiter, and Wally's awkwardness while Andre guffaws. Also Andre giving a rather curt and impersonal "great" when the waiter asks if everything is alright. The cinematic elements are very subtle, but they're definitely there.

  • But, you are right, Wally said "Great". I was too fixed on Andre's look, and he did mouth something while I heard "Great". But, let's not split hairs. This is youtube!!! By all means lay on the insults!

  • Why is it that Wallace Shawn always sounds funny, even in movies where he is supposed to be serious, like Vanya on 42nd St.

  • Oh boy. . . Please pardon my geekiness, but it struck me while watching this clip that Wallace Shawn also went on to play the 'Grand Negus' on Star Trek, Deep Space Nine. Well, THAT just added a whole new dimension of viewing entertainment to this film.

  • Thanks for the antagonism. You got anything relevent to add?

  • And its Wally that says "great" not Andre. shows how observant you are.

  • Thats the social reality that people now find themselves interacting within, it can be difficult to be direct with other people when you are not situated in a context of free expression. Our culture now is poisoning our relations with each other in this way.

  • So, the fact the remarks about the head, and the silence about his mother, both indicate a type of COMPASSION, never enters into it? How odd. Obviously, they were out to get you, Andre and Wallace. :) So, oriental cultures AREN'T known for being either reserved or wildly demonstrative, kind of like us? How odd, must look into that.

  • This was long before he had to wear those two foot ears as the Grand Nagus.
