The G&U uses its ballast regulator as a dirt plow to sculpt the ballast around the tracks. It is preparing the line from Grafton to West Upton. Recorded on 11/17 and 11/21 2008.

  • nice video i use to run a regulor just like that one except didnt have the one pass plow is the track use today?

  • The line had its first run at the end of 2009. They have since replaced much of the dirt ballast with stone. Check out my most recent video to see the line in action.

  • Was this line abandoned and now being re-opened? Great Video!

  • The entire ROW was never abandoned, but rather went unused for a period of years. The last time they ran an engine to Upton (on this section of track) was 5 years ago for a test run. 10 years since any revenue runs.

  • @BudmanPackfan so i'm not the only one that noticed the good 'ol 2 stroke detroit very nice

  • What ballast?

  • ol wire side put one of these sideways in the track when i picked a r72lb rail out of the mudd and caught in a joint in the rail we had just changed out on a steel gang

  • i have a video of one of those on the cp line! the one that i saw sure made a lot of smoke!

  • wats tha point of this?

  • Nice video. Plowing the soil away from the roadbed to improve drainage, perhaps to access teh sides for tie replacments and ballast addition. Love the sound of that barely muffled Detroit Diesel!!!

  • I feel bad now about my pessimistic critism of the line. It could afterall be suitable for a trackmobile towing a 50ft boxcar with a little bit of work. Maybe some rock put into the roadbed so that dirt doesn't make so much of the ballast ratio.

  • Optimist (LOL)
