Salman Rushdie is an Indian-British novelist and essayist. His novels include "Midnight's Children," "The Satanic Verses," "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" and his latest, "The Enchantress of Florence" (Random House, 2008). For his writing, he has won the Booker Prize; the Booker of Bookers prize as the best novel to win the Booker in the first 25 years of its existence; the Whitbread Prize; the Writer's Guild Award; the Aristeion Prize; and major literary awards in Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Hungary. He was awarded knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008 for his services to literature. He has served as honorary vice president, member trustee-at-large and president of the PEN American Center and was also a founder and first president of the International Parliament of Writers. He lives in New York City.
