The East Lancs. February Gala featured two very special guests with 30777 'Sir Lamiel' and 70013
'Oliver Cromwell' joining home based locos Black Five 44871 and 3F 47324 and the long awaited return of 71000 'Duke of Gloucester'. The video includes a few scenes of the Friday night shed shoot proir to the action on Saturday. A grey and misty start on Saturday gave way to some very welcome afternoon sunshine. The opening scene on the Saturday is at Market Street, Bury followed by shots at Irwell Vale, Townsend Fold, Summerseat and crossing the Roch Viaduct.
Many thanks to all at the ELR and especially to Nigel Valentine and all the volunteers for the shed shoot on a bitterly cold Friday evening and also Ian Riley for arranging the visit of 30777 and 70013.

  • My apologies for sending this but it seemed appropriate after my last comment. I picked up a copy of the August issue of "steam World." no.290...There is in it an article called "Watching Trains at Annfield Plain. ". This was where I spent my youth. Above the train is a row of terraced bungalows I liived there until moving in 1969. Now you may understand how this vid of yours is so enjoyable. Oh ! to turn the clock back. Thanks again . from an old Geordie..........................

  • Thanks again, I'm pleased the video brings back many memories for you. Many times I have longed to be able to turn the clock back myself, life seemed so much better

  • I have to agree with TimAber57. This vid brings back great memories of my childhood and teenage years in the north-east watching 9F's Q7's and Riddles wd's pulling Iron ore loads to Consett Steel works. to see locos belching out steam and smoke is very naustalgic for me. Thanks a lot...keep it up.

  • Thank you very much, some great memories you have there. It's great to have been able to enjoy real working steam.

  • So beautiful it almost hurts.

Every part is wonderful. I love the opening images of the engines steaming up; hugely atmospheric and so impressive. Some of those starts are so nostalgic for me; I remember standing next to huge locomotives in Preston station as I boy and loved the sound and almost the feel of the power when they pulled out. Your video brings back those memories so clearly. Thank you for posting it.

  • Thanks very much, always nice to bring back some happy childhood memories.
