well his birthday certainly wasnt on december 25th because that day was picked by some emperor or king who wanted it to start near the beginning of the winter solstice on the roman calendar, which also represents the "rebirth of sun gods", so the date was pretty much very pagan

Christmas started of as a peasant holiday changed by the government to a Christan holiday,

even though Jesus was thought to have been born in spring!

Did they have the same weather patterns when he was born

Maybe it was a warm spell

maybe the shepherds had run out of stored grain

are you a shepherd - do you really know everything there is to know about tending sheep and how and when?

Maybe the field was right next to the barn and all the sheep had escaped and the shepherd was just trying to get them all back in the barn
