Felecia has laid out a five-point plan of action to fight domestic violence, which includes:
- Assist counties to set up domestic violence courts, modeled after the successful drug courts already in place
- Urge the Arizona Legislature to put resources toward Domestic Violence Fatality Review Teams to prepare a statewide assessment of the problem
- Increase public awareness of domestic violence and educate people on the warning signs, including the continuation and expansion of such programs as CUT IT OUT, which trains hair stylists to recognize the effects of domestic abuse
- Assist employers with guidelines and support to create policies to protect employees from domestic violence
- Support enforcement of victims' rights laws through expanding the Attorney General's Victim Services Program;
Domestic violence is a widespread problem, and victims come from all walks of life and are both young and old. With the economic stresses of Arizona's recession, we can expect an increase in domestic violence crimes, and the next Attorney General needs to be ready to meet the challenge head on from the start.
