Jan 26 - The world's largest drugmaker will pay $68 billion for Wyeth, boosting its pipeline as it gets closer to losing its patent on the cholesterol drug Lipitor. Pfizer is paying $68 billion dollars for rival drugmaker Wyeth, while announcing lower quarterly earnings and plans to slash its dividend in half. Pfizer's acquisition successfully tapped into the credit markets-- a sign of confidence in the company's strategy, according to analysts. Bobbi Rebell reports.

generic drug makers spend $0 on R&D, unlike the Pharma companies who make the branded medication, so buying generic is defo cheaper, but in the long run, there will be less funding for future life-saving molecule discoveries.

I had been an Wyeth employee until 2005. The company given me a great opportunity to learn and grow. I could be wrong but it seems Generic medications might be good; however, you never underestimate brand value, name, quality.
