John East J-RETRO 01 Description & Sound Demo (Retros P-1)

John East summarises the operational features & installation of the J-Retro 01 drop-in active/passive retro-fit preamp for J style basses. Michael Curtiss Ruiz demonstrates four different styles of bass part, with passive settings first, and then with appropriate active EQ settings.

In contrast, Michael then plays a piece on his Modulus 5, illustrating the another East product, the U-Retro Deluxe.

The demo set-up involves directly injecting the raw bass signal into Logic Studio on a Mac, using an East STMP-01 with EQ bypassed. This setting gives a buffered and razor flat balanced output.

Jazz Bass V, absolutely, I'm assuming you have a passive bass? If so, make sure a 9V battery fits in the cavity down towards end where the jack is.
