Built in 1889 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, the Eiffel Tower is a marvel of the Industrial Age and trumpets progress and man's ingenuity. Meanwhile, centered on the Isle de la Cite, Notre Dame sits atop what centuries ago was a Roman temple. @TheAmericanEvita How do you know it's overrated if you don't go up? That's like saying a certain food is overrated without trying it out first. So it's not the tallest structure around, so what? It's a world symbol of human engineering and enginuity and to go on it is to be a part of something very special. Next time put your hasty judgement and snootiness aside and go on the damn tower...if your schedule allows of course.

I went to Paris last month and looked at the Eiffel Tower for the 1st time. Because in 2011 we've come so far in terms of technology and architecture, the tower didn't me impress much. There are several taller structures in the world. I thought it looked small actually. I enjoyed looking at it during the day from various distant spots. I didn't go up the tower because it's overrated. The modern Tower Montparnasse in the southernmost Left Bank is even taller and has better views.
