The Wesleyan On Broadway "In The Heights" Benefit performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City raised $1.5 Million, supported 38 scholarships, and strengthened awareness of Wesleyan via coverage in major and new media, including video highlights in the banner of the www.wesleyan.edu website.
The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "In The Heights," was created by and stars Lin-Manuel Miranda '02, is directed by Tommy Kail '99, and arranged and orchestrated by Bill Sherman '02. Miranda began to create the show during his sophomore year in the '92 Theater on the Wesleyan campus. Later he worked with Kail and Sherman to bring it to life on Broadway. "In The Heights" opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in March 9, 2008.
The Lin-Manuel Miranda '02 success story following his Tony Awards for "In The Heights" on Broadway, including his high profile development deal with Dreamworks SKG, and finalist status for the Pulitzer prize confirm him as a leading role model of the Wesleyan 'Effective Idealist.'
I applied to Wesleyan, and this is just one more reason why I really hope I get accepted...
