You are right. It was a challenge tuning in radio stations with these early radios. This one only has one variable capacitor tuning knob. One or two years before this one they had three separate variable capacitor tuning knobs. So if you got a station tuned in you wrote every setting down including the antenna used if you had more than one. Thanks.

it looks like it would take quite a bit of work to find a station on that thing.

Thanks. The Bakelite front on this radio is large and very shinny. They had to have had phone office engineers developing these radios. Who else would choose a copper bus-bar when a copper wire is all that you would need? Of course the bus-bars are part of the support of the electronics also. It is just so different.
outstanding old video

Very nice, I have one just like it with federal horn. What Victrola cabinet did these go in?

Neat a federal horn too. I'll search the web, but I'll bet that Ed Bell knows. Next time I talk to him I'll ask him what cabinet they were originally in. Thanks.

I'd be curious to find out if Federal was an actual independent phone company or just an equipment manufacturer like S-C.

I don't know, if I find some history on Federal I'll convey that information.
