@briannacrock as much as i love the jackson 5, they were not first at all before them it was frankie lymon and the teenagers before them were the nicholas brothers and mills brothers please do your research.

@lynch2114 I think the group was already called New Edition before Maurice Starr, who wrote this song and the others off the first album Candy Girl and conceived of them as the modern day Jackson 5, came along. It was Starr that made New Edition do the Jackson 5-style music on the Candy Girl album.
