  • I'm impressed you found a color tape (albeit very faded) of three consecutive 15-minute episodes. It and SEARCH FOR TOMORROW shared the 12:30--1 PM slot until they expanded in the fall of 1968--the last soaps to go to 30 minutes.

  • @savammy Did you know Jane Withers actually worked as a plumber for several months before doing these commercials, so she would have credibility?

  • @bongomanfromdalou Actually it's the other way around...P & G (and other companies) now sell off product lines that are marginal performers in the marketplace and focus on the ones that dominate their field--or acquire them (their purchase of Gillette).

  • I remember the Crisco Oil in the brown glass bottles very well. That's all my mom used. She would use the shortening for making pie crust or dumplings. Good memories!

  • love those old classic commercials.josephine the plumber.i remember from late 60's to the 80's

  • If I were her age back then, I just might have had a crush on Leslie!

  • well, Zachary vanished without a trace as far as I know...it was during the lighthouse scene where everyone was out at the lighthouse trying to get the light to work for some kind of distressed ship. Zachary it was said had attempted a rescue but was never heard or seen from again...leaving everyone to think he drowned. The lighthouse scene happened while the town was toasting the 60th anniversary of Cedars Hospital, which was a double for the 60th anniversary of the show.

  • GL was a vastly different soap opera in the 1960's and 1970's than what younger audiences that discovered the show in the 1980's would recognize.

There was no Reva and Josh; there was no Lewis family; there were no Spaulding's before 1977...GL during this era was pretty much the stories of the Bauer family...there was a secondary family with the last name of Fletcher and another secondary family...but by and large the Bauer family was the focal point.

Reva arrived in 1983. Josh in 1981.

  • it been soo long and you still want to know! you must be one of a kind

  • It's very interesting that even after GL made the transition from radio to TV, the opening still had that same style of organ music like the soaps had when they were on the radio...
