On 12 June 2011, I went to Kluang, Johor, West Malaysia to visit relatives. It was like taking a trip in time to an era of more spacious days. The Indonesian tune used - 'Bengawan Solo' - conveys the gentle rhythm of life there. To reflect local culture and content, I have also used a song 'Semalam di Malaysia' ('One night in Malaysia') sung by the Indonesian group D'lloyd. It was composed by Saiful Bahri, an Indonesian conductor and composer (1924 - 1975), who was so touched by his experience when touring and performing in Peninsular Malaya in 1960, that he was moved to compose it. He later made Malaya his permanent home. This is not a literal translation of the song. I have used poetic licence to express what I think was the poetic intent of the composer. All errors in translations are mine. Errata: captions early in video should have read '...Malaysian Royalty' instead of '...Malaysian Royalties' and it should have been 'Durians - kings of Malaysian fruits!'.
