they never told me what the issue was but replaced the motherboard.however, it took three shipments to BenQ. first two they said there was nothing wrong (just kept on working during the 10 to 30 minutes they tried it)on the third try, they played with it long enough so that it turned off...
they replaced the motherboard free of charge (though it was out of warranty). a nice gesture given that they sent the unit back prematurely the first few times saying nothing was wrong..send them this link
