Every day children are placed into the foster care system in San Diego County after suffering abuse or neglect. Some of those children have been violently injured by their parents and are victims of abusive head trauma (formerly known as shaken baby). It is commonly recognized that abusive head trauma is the most common cause of death and accounts for most long-term disabilities in infants and young children that suffer from physical child abuse. The immediate and long term effects of shaking a young child are severe and include developmental delays, blindness and even death.
