My soundtrack to my favourite scene from How To Train Your Dragon.

This is what I have been up to all last night and a bit of tonight. I figured since I want to write soundtracks professionally, I should start practicing. Plus I am doing a presentation about them in my lecture after christmas and I need an example of my own so yeah...

This is my very first time writing a soundtrack and using all the materials etc. I just couldn't wait till next year, when I get taught how to do it all. So just...bare with me haha.

I tried to stay true to John Powell's style but still not copy him completely. Also, I am nowhere near his greatness but we know that already.

It is a wip so yeah. Also bare in mind that I am one person with logic, as much as I would like a symphony orchestra I can't have one so the sounds might be a bit...blah.

I have also not bothered to do the sounds like Toothless growling or Hiccup drawing in the ground but thats because I'm lazy...I should do them before I show my class.

So I would like some thoughts. if there is anything missing, constructive criticism (or even some positive!) I want to make sure that it is okay before I show it to my class and lecturers.

Or not, whatever.

  • Dude! Write this down! Get this preformed by a symphony orchestra! Now! You are genius!!!!!!!

  • @Wchawd27 wow thanks a lot!! I would actually love to work with an orchestra, maybe in the future ;)

  • Great job!

  • @StrayPoppy thank you!

  • I was a bit skeptical, because I love the film's soundtrack so much, but this is actually really, really good. True, the quality of the sounds isn't great, but like you said, you don't have a symphony, so that's not what I'm judging here. The composition is just really nice. I like it.

  • @sashimidragon thank you! I agree completely, John Powell's work on this film is absolute perfection in my opinion.

I actually have a more updated and improved version actually, I may upload soonish.
