Sorry i haven't had the time to get back to all of you sending me private messages. Check out this link http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=561 a whole thread dedicated to helping dell xps m1330 users install osx86. Check it out and let me know how it works.

Just wanted to show that the Dell xps m1330 is capable of running osx for the most part. Installed osx using a osx cd i purchased after patching the disc.

Things working:
Video (Nvinject)
Camera (OTB)
Bluetooth (OTB after update to 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 wierd i know)
Wireless (OTB)
USB (OTB)
Audio (VoodooHDA.kext + prefpane)
Fingerprint reader (Found the manufactures site and installed software directly for osx)
Dell Remote (OTB)
Card reader (Thanks to chuckiemn for suggesting VoodooSDHC.kext it works like a charm. )
Things not working:
Network Card
Shutdown/restart (Showed in video with a kernel panic, sometimes it shuts down to a black screen and then to continue the shutdown you have to hold the power button. This only occurs with the driver for video installed.)

Don't ask as i will not provide help on how to do this. If you want to know search around on google for the guides.

Here are some good tutorials:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVan49_Vm_I&feature=related

Not sure who to give credit to for the background but i found it here http://wallpaper-s.org/30__Hackintosh_Skull-and-Bones.htm\

I do not consider this to be a replacement to purchasing a mac. Power off/restart doesn't work and probably wont until someone figures out how to patch the video driver to turn off correctly.

If you want a mac then buy a mac. Or at the very least if your going to do this then support osx purchase the disc

If anyones interested in modifying there about me screens then visit this link http://code.google.com/p/osx86tools/. Program you load called osx86tools. Not sure however if this will work on an actual mac but works just fine on all osx86 loads i've done..

Problem #1: I found that the current RTC was causing the system to crash. it was an extra addon included with the iatkos s3 disc don't know the technical details behind it but that was causing the kernel panic i got first off the bat. Solved this by selecting 32bit RTC

Problem #2: Machine initially booted up to a black screen due to lack of driver support. To bypass the video and skip this problem boot with the -x flag.

  • Used iatkos s3 for my next install which seemed to work better.

  • what kind of booting are you running.....through a cd or installed?

  • @Cwatts2644 Well, in the video showed a patched CD. I now run iATKOS.

  • Hi There, do you have the broadcom or intel wireless adaptor in your Dell XPS m1330? I've managed to get everything working how you have except for the wireless adaptor. I might have had the wifi switch set to OFF but I'm not sure. Do you think this could have skipped installing the wireless card ?

  • @AeroplaneDope I have broadcom. I hear there are problems getting the intel wireless to work. Those are easily interchangeable but you have to find a compatible one. If my switch gets set to off when im in osx the wireless fails and i have to reboot. wifi worked out of the box for me so i cant really help ya there. Just make sure that you have a good distro unless your patching the disc yourself. IATKOS is always a good one to use.

  • AUDIO - which kext did you use for audio amigo. i tried everyone i can find, but only the headphone jacks work, no speakers? thanks.

  • @dreushbag used voodoohda + prefpane make sure its for 64bit snow leopard.

  • i took the booting kernal from the cd and installed it on the laptop itself and now it boots fine

  • Okay i am having problems, my dell m1330 xps same model boots up on empire and has mac osx 10.6.....everytime i update it freezes when it boots back up...any ideas what i can do or how to fix this?

  • @WiZmEn1998

With that English you're going nowhere.

First of all, you had to install Mac OS X on a pc ONLY if you knew what you were doing.

To get the right resolution you need to edit a file which passes the parameter to the kernel at boot time.

For that you could get OSX86Tools which makes it easier to do it than directly editing the file.

To get internet to work you need to get the right kext (driver) for the Ethernet/Wireless adaptor that you're using.

    Good luck.

  • @TechGopher hi, you could help me too :) My m1330 is a Merom 2.2 c2d, nvidia gpu, 3G ram. I tried iPC, Kalyway, Aitkos v5 and v7 with multicore and speedstep on and off, -v -s,-v -f, -x, cpus=1 -v, none of them worked...with -x I succeed to get an Apple screen with a loading logo but it kept on forever. Aitkos v5 actually got into the installer even with speedstep and multicore on but it doesnt install the osx...

  • ok imma get a dell xps 17 cuz its faster and 700 dollars less than the mac book pro i was gonna get. it has a gt 445 grahpics card, is there a problem with dual boot and the gpu for OSX?? cuz i want the graphics to work, its way better than the macs 330m. I need to use the osx side to do multimedia school stuff and i want windows to do my everyday things, just askin. will a program like final cut run or will there be video and audio driver issues?
