I think he most likely knows that, and just answered as simplistic as possible for the guy. And technically, the diaphragm is a type of muscle. So what he said was still quite relevant.

i know im gonna sound like a smartass, but actually the diaphragm contracts to breathe in (inhale) ;) and atmospheric pressure doesn't quite cause inhalation it's more like air is flowing into the lungs due to the contraction of the diaphragm. sorry, i'm not very good at explaining stuff, but i hope it makes some sense.
