I know Jeremy Brett fans would disagree, but I think Basil was the best screen Holmes ever. Brilliant and sarcastic, but never cold or callous. Arrogant and superior, but not cruel. He was confident, masterful, imperious, and wonderfully cheeky. He WAS Holmes.

Hi fans. I think this clip is really well done and tastefully put together. I have being to the museum and Rathbone's profile matches perfectly the one Sir Arthur describes in his novels. So visually he is the most like the character. Basil didn't like all that Hollywood Schmooze that you have to do to get work. and shy'd away from a lot of it. He is South African by birth. Some great slow Mo editing. Jeremy Brett has a slightly better grasp of the odd manner. If we could have only merged the 2

Do anybody imagine Sherlock Holmes in bed with a woman ? The look Basil Rathbone gives to the woman in black in 3:17 ist just stunning ! Hard to imagine what could happen after that, but many women did think about it...

Basil Rathbone was a very attractive and talented Holmes. But I prefer the dry and creepy way Jeremy Brett played it. In the Rathbone movies, no allusion to cocain, and the stories are not faithful to the ACD short stories.
