How much has the Muslim community been affected by Western ideologies? Is copying the Western way necessarily harmful? AbdurRaheem Green comments on this topic and offers insight regarding the strange phenomenon of the "Coca-Cola Muslim" Generation.

He was born to British parents in Darussalam in Tanzania. His father Gavin Green was a colonial administrator in the still existent British Empire. He later joined Barclays Bank in 1976 and was sent to Egypt to set up Egyptian Barclays Bank. He was educated at the famous Roman Catholic Monastic School called Ampleforth College and went on to study history in the London University. However, he left his education unfinished in an effort to devote myself to Islamic works.

Currently, he is working with an Islamic media company based in England and engage himself in dawah activities including lectures on Islam in London's famous Hyde Park.

  • They are not mysterious to those with knowledge. Scholars are inheritors of the prophets -- meaning they inherit the message and pass it on. Of course no one is infallible except the Prophet saws. But those people spend their whole lives lifes studying the deen, and understand the Quran and Sunnah the way you and I can't unless we become students of knowledge.

  • I used to have Insurance on my 2 phones. just one day after listening the lecture I straight went to the bank and cancelled all insurance. ALHAMDULILLAH....May ALLAH guide us all in the right path. AMEEN.

  • the earth is full of idiots, that's why we become 7 billion!!

  • @khalifahklothing Salam mo alaykum, You have two videos.. whats the difference between these two vid?

  • @netchi2 I'd like to give my opinion on these matters. Islam is the vision of a perfect society. In a perfect society, there would not be any criminals. Hence, insurance isn't needed. He also states that insurance is akin to gambling, which is haram. Secondly, there are issues which are permissible, and outright haram. He mentioned that if insurance is required to drive a car, then take the bare minimum. And by humanity no country would make that kind of law. If there was, Muslims should hijrah.

  • So insurance is haram because it means a lack of faith. Does he also recommend that we sleep in our homes with our front doors opened in the faith that Allah will save us if thieves come! Secondly, he said that insurance is compared to fornicating 36 times and with mother. BUT also says that if the laws of our country state we must then it may be permissible. Does not make any sense! It's like saying that if the law of a country states you MUST fornicate then it may be permissible.

  • @Faraselislam -

Brother-U stopping the buying of a product is not going to do anything- just because you assume that the owner is Jewish it doesnt mean that he's doing anything related to Isreal unless u have solid evidence.

If you are deeply concerned about an issue, i dont think a can of pop for 2 dollars is going to break someone's bank and make them consious about an issue that you associate with buying that drink.

There are other ways, but i dont think this has worked for the past.

Takaful (insurance) works on the basis of an agreement made by the participants of the insurance scheme. Each agrees that he or she is one of the insured as well as one of the insurers. Each pays a premium to the scheme which is then invested by the scheme in an Islamically acceptable way.

  • @loonietoonie0123

this means i DO know how it works. the fact tht i commented, shud've given u the clue tht i know wt im talking bout...

lemme make it nice and clear:

"IF INTEREST IS INVOLVED IN INSURANCE (OR ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER), INSURANCE BECOMES HARAAM."

insurance per say is NOT haraam...

  • @uNamed2lyfe This means you don't know how the insurance system works if you can't see why insurance is a riba(interest) system. Islamic insurance would mean "the premium you pay is what you get back exactly". Is that how it works there?

  • @SoldierGhazi I live in Canada as well. You mean it's illegal to drive without insurance. AbdurRaheem Green mentioned if that's the case then take the most minimal option.
